Technical Memo #8: Merced River Ranch Channel-Floodplain  Restoration: Design Rationale

·         Summary and justification for the actions that compose the MRR channel-floodplain restoration project as it is currently designed at the 75% level including:

o        Resizing the existing channel within the MRR;

o        A one-time infustion of coarse sediment to the MRR channel, with the potential of extending infucsion efforts to the reach upstream;

o        Periodic augmentation of carse sediment within the MRR, with the potential of extending augmentation efforts to the reach upstream;

o        Excavating dredger tailngs from the floodplain and grading functional floodplain elevations and secondary channels; and

o        Revegetating the regraded floodplain with native riparian vegetation.

·         Updates to the restoration design description, justification and design constraints originally outlined in the conceptual restoration design report (Tech Memo #6).

·         Complement to the 75% design drawings and implementation plan.
